Gryff slept through the night last night! Well, actually, I slept through the night. Which is a big thing, too. Gryff woke up twice to eat, but he and my wife are getting really good at nursing while they both stay in bed, so it’s much less disruptive. I slept through all of it, and it sounds like my wife barely had to wake up for it, either. So anyway, this is where the varying definitions come in…
By my estimation, “sleeping through the night” means that he is comatose for a full 8 hours, preferably while it’s dark out. using that measure, he is not sleeping through. But we’ve also seen a lot of people on forums and blogs saying things like “other than a couple of feedings, he slept through” or “He slept through the night, but obviously he had to eat a couple times” so I’m willing to admit that there are varying definitions for this thing in the world.
In any case, all that sleeping last night doesn’t mean that he’s skipping naptime today.
Whatever definition you use, we all got some good rest last night, and it’s a good thing. His little rash has pretty well cleared up all the way by now, and I think a good night’s sleep is a great way to make sure he kicks whatever might have remained.
Also, this morning, he was so cute I almost couldn’t stand it. Just smiley and wiggly and cooing at the little bears that dangle over his upstairs changing table. He’s such a happy baby! We’re really blessed to have gotten such an easy boy to deal with.
My wife is also spending her first few days at home alone with him all day. Yesterday the dog was at doggie daycare, and Jenna managed just Gryff very well, and today she’s managing both of them (and the cats, but they’re pretty hands-off) all on her own! My parents, tireless souls that they are, had been coming over pretty much every day to help with chores around the house or just take care of the baby so Jenna could get a shower and some food. It’s awesome that they’re willing to help so much, but Jenna was really curious to see how she’d do on her own all day. It’s not an easy job, for sure, but she’s doing great. We’ll absolutely still take advantage of the amazing family support we get, but it’s good to know that she can still do just fine without.
Finally, a friend of ours just showed us this crib: Transparent Bubble Crib
I find it strangely appealing. Thanks for reading!
