Hey guys! Sorry I haven’t written in a while. We’ve been so busy with our little man! Here’s a chronological rundown of what’s been going on since I last updated. Any concerns I might have had about a baby slowing down our social schedule were entirely unfounded. We’re even busier now than we used to be, and that’s saying something.
4th of July – I had the day off of work, and we took Gryff to a friend’s house for an afternoon party and he seemed to enjoy it. He always does so well with social gatherings. After that we brought him home and mostly just relaxed. It was a good day.
I also took off work on Thursday and Friday, to give myself a gigantic weekend. On Thursday, Gryffin had his 2-month pediatric checkup. Here’s the breakdown: he weighed 13 lbs, 10 oz (6.2 kg). I thought he’d be pushing 14 lbs, and he wasn’t too far off, really. He’s 22 3/4″ (57.8 cm) long, which is the first height measurement we’ve had on him since his last pediatric appt. They also measured head circumference, which we hadn’t done since birth. He started at 14 inches (35.6 cm) and is now just over 16 inches (40.6 cm). Here are the relevant charts:
He’s pushing probably 95th percentile for head circumference right now. That’s kinda crazy. Big ol’ noggin on that boy.
His weight is sticking pretty close to the 80th percentile over time.
His height (or length, if you prefer) has been above the 50th percentile (as high as the 80th, at two weeks) but has settled back down to about the 50th for this checkup. I’m thinking that we just caught him in between height spurts. What we’ve seen in him and in other babies is that they tend to chunk up and then stretch out, and I think he’s in a chunking up stage right now. We’ll see what the 4 month appointment looks like, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him a bit taller than he is now.
This is part of why I think he’s extra chunky right now. He was sitting pretty close to the 50th percentile on this chart, but he’s shot up to the 95th percentile on weight for length. He’s just storing up some extra chub to be used to drive the next height spurt.
So there are all my charts. I have so much fun with charts.
We had some friends over Thursday night, and we all worked on sewing projects. Good times, and Gryff was chilled out the whole time. I’m so glad we started having people over early and often with him. He seems to be able to sleep through most anything these days. We grilled up some steaks, steamed some broccoli with cheese sauce, baked sweet potatoes, and generally pigged out while watching Pushing Daisies and cutting out patterns. Definitely a good night!
Friday we stayed pretty close to home, worked on the yard, worked on some other projects, etc. It was fun and relaxed, overall.
Saturday was crazy busy! At the beginning of the week, we’d been planning to get together with my sister and her family, but without really solid plans. Then she suggested we go to Heritage Square. Then some other friends said they’d be in our neck of the woods and would like to come see the house and the baby. Then we talked to some other friends who we hadn’t seen in a long time who also wanted to come see the house and the baby. So we decided that Saturday was the day for all of that. Our friends the Doyles came over in the morning, and brought their son Elliott, who is nearly 2 now. Then we went to Heritage Square with my older sister and brother-in-law and my nephew, who is a little over 2. We had so much fun! Here are some pictures:
That’s my brother-in-law, Scott, and my nephew, Braden. They’re getting ready to ride on the Alpine Slide, which I used to visit with my cousins all the time when we were kids. My sisters and I were so close with our cousins growing up, and we want to help our kids have that same opportunity, so we’re getting the boys together as much as possible. Gryff can’t do very much right now, obviously, but Braden is super cute with him anyway.
Jenna and our little boy. He’s getting so big!
Here’s me, changing Gryffin’s diaper on a window sill. As a dad, you learn to spot a flat, baby-sized surface from over 100 yards away.
So after we finished up at the Square, we headed back home and threw together a quick meal for our other friends who were coming over. The Kemps brought their son (5, I think?) and daughter (2, I’m pretty sure), and the Halls brought their nephew, who is 5. The kids played very nicely through dinner and all the adults got to catch up after far too long. It was a load of fun, and good to see a group of older kids playing just to see what it’s like.
On Sunday, we hit up the farmer’s market to get eggs and put in our deposit for our share of a pasture-raised pig. Afterward, I went to the shooting range with my dad, and then came back in time to have some more friends over. If it sounds like a heck of a weekend, it’s because it was.
Almost forgot to share this picture of our second trip to the Ren Faire this year!
So there you go, everyone! Updates and all. Enjoy, thanks for reading, and I hope to check in again soon.
